TOLPUDDLE is a parish and village in the Dorchester union, and hundred of
Piddletown, and contains 2,039 acres; 7 miles N.E. of Dorchester, 4 N. of
Moreton station, and 15 S.W. of Wimborne.  The church (St. John) is built
of very small stone, has a towerr and four bells.  The living is a vicarage,
value 240 pounds, with residence, in the patronage of The Dean and Canons
of Christ Church, Oxford; The Rev. George Lloyd Nash is the incumbent.
There is a small Wesleyan chapel.  The river Piddle bounds the village
southward, and supplies a flour mill.  A commodious National school was
erected through the munificence of E. St. John, lord of the manor.  The
population in 1861 was  401.

POSTAL REGULATIONS:  Letters are received from Piddletown through
Dorchester.  The nearest money-order office is at Piddletown.  Post town,
Dorchester.
