Parley is a parish, in the petty
sessional division of East Shaston, hundred of Cranborne, county court district
of Wimborne Minster, diocese of Salisbury, archdeaconry of Dorset, and rural
deanery of Pimperne, situated on the borders of Hampshire, and bounded by the
river Stour, distant 5 miles south-east from Wimborne, 8 north-east from Poole,
6 north-west from Christchurch, and 120 from London. The church is very small,
of Norman structure, with low square tower. The living is a rectory, yearly
value £250, in the gift of Mrs Buller, and held by the Rev. Henry John Buller,
M.A. of Trinity College, Oxford. A considerable portion of this parish is heath
land. The population in 1861 was 268; acreage, 3,407.
Dudsbury
is one mile north-west. Here is a large roman camp.
