Note:- This transcription relates to the Dorchester Sub Division only: Sometimes people in this Division applied to be substitutes in other Divisions such as :-

Samuel BRINE of Dorchester a joiner by trade is recorded at the 2nd meeting of the Wareham Sub Division held on 1st April 1776 at Bere Regis as having completed 3 years substitution for a labourer called Thomas FOOKS in their Divison. ----(Image 162)

Sub Division Meeting - 13th May 1776 ----(Image 73)

At a Meeting of His Majesty's Deputy Lieutenants of the County of Dorset and Justices of the peace of the same County held at the house known of the 'Kings Arms' in Dorchester in the County of Dorset for the Subdivision of Dorchester on Monday the 13th day of May for the carrying into execution an Act made and passed in the ninth year of the reign of his present Majesty entitled an Act for explaining, amending and continuing an Act made and passed in the second year of the reign of his present Majesty entitled an Act to explain amend & reduce into one act of Parliament the several laws now in being relating to the raising and training the Militia within that part of Great Britain called England

The following are the names pf Persons chosen by us at the last meeting for this subdivision who have appeared before us thos day and been enrolled to serve in the Sorsetshire Regiment of Militia for the term of three yearsor provided substitutes in their places or head as posted opposite to ntheir respective names or are discharged by being incapacitated or otherwise:-
