Marriage of the Vicar of West Fordington Daughter ::- On Tuesday considerable interest was taken in the marriage of the Rev William Henry THOMAS and Miss Margaret Violet COLLARD only daughter of the Rev. J. Marshall COLLARD, Vicar of West Fordington. While at Dorchester the bride has been an active worker in West Fordington Parish and by her appearance in amateur dramatics and tableaux has become widely known as a young lady of considerable talent and accomplishments. The bridegroom was for some time curate of West Fordington and speedily won the regard of the parishioners. As assistant army chaplain he made many friends among the military and did good work for the benefit of the boys of the parish acting as a lieutenant of the Church Lads Brigade Company. Last autumn he was appointed vicar of Privett a Hampshire Parish to which he now takes his bride. The ceremony took place at Christ Church and the bridal party walked from the vicarage to the church and back along the carpeted path without the need for carriages. As the hour drew near the invited guests and others assembled in the church in large numbers, and were conducted to seats by Dr.COSENS and Mr S.D.ALLEN the churchwardens by whom the seating arrangements were admirably carried out. The church was soon filled ans a crowd remained outside for whom no room could be found. The chancel had been beautifully adorned with flowers by Mrs EVERINGHAM , the Miss MANSEL , Miss HILL and Miss GOODFELLOW, and the profusion of exquisite arums and other white flowers imparted a due festive appearance to the pretty interior, an effect which was greatly heightened by the bright dresses of the wedding party. The service which was fully choral began at 2.25 with the bridal march from Wagner's Lohengrin, Mt H. Gilmore Dodderidge who was at the organ being assisted by a small band composed of the following:- Miss Barnes and Miss Clapcott, first violins: Drummer Preston, second violin and cornet; Miss C.Barnes; viola; Drummer Bentley, flute; Sergeant Drummer Ashcroft, brass clarinet; and Sergent O'Neill, tympani. The marches hymns and Gloria to the Psalm were played by the band and organ, and the other parts by the organ alone. The bride leaning on the arm of her brother Mr.Alex A.L.COLLARD of the Hampshire Regiment was met at the church porch by the surpliced choir and clergy who preceded them in procession up the aisle headed by the cross-bearer, singing the hymn "Come Thou Holy Spirit come". The bride's father had decided to perform the service assisted by the Rev John Elwes of St Saviour's, Poplar an old friend of the family. The Rev. A.R. LANGBORNE (assistant priest) also walked in the procession. The bride looked lovely in a dress of ivory white satin, trimmed simply with ruches of chiffon. She wore a tulle veil and a spray of orange blossom in the hair but no ornaments. Her bouquet was of white roses carnations and lilies of the valley. Instead of the customary escort of bridesmaids the bride was attended by Miss Celia and Master Paul Meade the pretty children of Mr & Mrs Meade who were dressed in white satin as a page and a maid on honour of Stuart times. The little girl was copied from a picture of one of the children of Charles I . She wore a tight fitting satin cap of the period and carried a basket of white flowers. The little boy was smartly attired as a cavalier, with a three cornered hat and carried a wand tipped with white flowers. Both wore white satin shoes with old paste buckles and each had an ornament presented by the bridegroom, the cavalier a gold and pearl pin. and the winsome maid of honour a gold safety pin brooch with a pearl horse shoe. The bridegroom awaited the bride at the chancel steps accompanied by his best man the Rev. E.H.H.Lee of Wimborne Minster. The hole service was taken by the vicar. The responses of both the bride and groom were clearly audible at the furthest end of the church. The Psalm was chanted to a setting by Sir Joseph Baraby and the hymn "O Perfect Love was sung while the newly wedded ones remained kneeling before the alter. The Rev John Elwes then gave an address and the Vicar pronounced the benediction and the Hymn " Now thank we all our God" was sung towards the close of which the bridal party entered the vestry for the signing of the register. While the duty was being performed Handel's "Occasional" Overture was played and as the bride and bridegroom re-entered the church and proceeded down the aisle Mendelssohn's incomparable "Wedding march" resounded through the building. At the church porch and for some distance along the path to the Vicarage the happy pair were freely showered with confetti.

A reception was afterwards held for which one Mr R.B. Brown's tents had been erected on the lawn. The company numbered about 150. The eatering was well carried out by Mr W.H.Holland. The bridecake a fine specimen of confectionery, was adorned with marguerites, violets. and stephanotis, in allusion to the bride's name. Music was played by the band of the 3rd Dorset Regiment under Bandmaster Ashcroft. A photo of the wedding party was taken by Mr. W.G.Elford , Messrs Dight & Son, the new florists, of South Street supplied the bouquets and carried out the floral decorations at the Vicarage which were very effective, and included an archway adorned with marguerites and violets.

Amid the congratulations of their friends Mr & Mrs THOMAS left by the 4.37 Express from Oxford where the honeymoon is to be spent. The bride's traveling dress was of black and white check, with a white satin collar and revers braided in black, and she wore a pink hat trimmed with chiffon and hyacinths. The presents which the bride alone numbered over 200 were displayed in the parish-room during the afternoon. ]

On Wednesday afternoon which created great interest throughout the town was solemnised in Christ Church, West Fordington, the couple chiefly concerned in the ceremony being Miss Vere Katherine OVANS and Mr. John Marshall Molesworth COLLARD.

The bride is the third daughter of the late Mr.J.L.OVANS of Longfield, East Sheen and Mrs Ovans of Cornwall Road, and the bridegroom is the eldest son of the Rev. J.M.COLLARD vicar of West Fordington and is a military man belonging to the 5th Burma Regiment Indian Staff Corps. IT goes without saying that a large number of inhabitants were presentincluding a preponderance of the fair sex. Stately arums made the chancel a picture of loveliness. The bride's costume was the rich white Duchesse satin. The entire front of the skirt was of richly embroidered Bokhara silk, the gift of the bride's brother Mr. C.P.L. OVANS. The draped bodice had a transparent yoke and sleeves of finely tucked chiffon, and a court train of handsome white brocade fell from both shoulders clasped at the waist by a handsome paste buckle, the gift of the Hon.C.Home Sinclair. The bridal shower bouquet was of white heather, lillies of the valley and myrtle. There were four bridesmaids viz, the Misses Winifred and Christabel OVANS (sisters of the bride) and Miss Frances STANLEY and Miss Eva HORNBY (cousins), who worw very pretty dresses and carried bunches of daffodils. The bride wasw given away by her brother Mr.Huhg OVANS, and the bridegroom was attended by jhis brother Mr. Bernard COLLARD. The marriage service was conducted by the bridegroom's father the Rev. J.M.COLLARD assited by the Rev. W.H.Thomas. The musical part of the service which was very effectively carried out, was arranged by the organist and choirmaster of St Mary's Mr.H.G. Godderidge who was ably assisted by the following gentlemen:- First Violins, Mr W.Stone and Mr.Losche: second violins, Messrs. E.A.Lane and A.H.Evans; viola Mr Boyton Smith; cello Mr R Miles; double bass Mr A.S.Hill; cornet Mr J Stevens; clarionet Captain Acland. The musical part consisted of a movement from Mozart's Quintette for strings; a hymn "Come Thou Holy Spirit Come" the "Deus Miseratur" hymn "Thine for ever"; Hymn "Now thank we all ou God"; march from Handel's Occasional Oratorio, and as the happy couple left the church Mendelssohn's Grand Hymenaeal March was played. In a few feeling and well chosen words to the bride and bridegroom the Vicar remarked that the ceremony just performed was not only the outward and isible sign of giving the ring and joining hands, but was also the inward and spiritual blessing. The blessing was given for the whole married life, and they must earn it - earn it by faithfullness to the amrriage vow and faithfullness throughout the whole web of married life. Let the husband earn it by keeping fresh and bright the love that he bears to his wife - bright as the wedding ring's lustre, by the expressions of that love, not only in the earlier days of married life but stronger and tenderer still as the years roll on. And the wife, let her earn the blessing throughout her life, not only by making the home the brightest and most attractive spot on earth, but also by her sympathy with her husband in all that interests him, even in his professional life. Let both earn it by each seeking a higher welfare of the other, and by binding and cementing their lives in one in the love of Christ, in worship, in prayer and in consecration of life.

Following the service a reception was held at the residence of Mr.Cosens.
